MEET SUE WILSON
My name is Susan Wilson and I'm excited to announce my candidacy for a position on the Porta Bella Yacht and Tennis Club Board of Directors. I'm looking forward to working with my friends and neighbors, the Board of Directors, the management team, as well as our valued volunteers, to ensure that Porta Bella Yacht and Tennis Club continues to be a thriving community.
For those who don't know me, I am a full-time resident and have lived in Porta Bella for over 3 years. Together my husband and I have seven children and eight grandchildren. We looked at many properties before choosing Porta Bella. We felt it offered us beautiful surroundings on the water as well as the lifestyle we were looking for. I can honestly say there is no place better to live in Southeastern Florida.
Before moving to Florida I was a homemaker, and I also worked outside the home. I helped manage my family's carryout/catering business, "How About Lunch" for twenty years. When we sold the family business I had the opportunity to work in the optical industry; on the manufacturing side and as a customer service representative.
The most important thing I learned in my 35 years in the workforce is "LISTENING". Everybody wants to be heard and respected. I also discovered that people will respect you more if you just say " I don't know the answer to that, but I'll find out and let you know".
I am a known member of the community. Whether I am out by the pool enjoying intercoastal scenery, or walking my dog, Annie, I always have time to talk to my friends and other residents. Right now I am on the asphalt committee.. I participated in the restoration of the putting green and tiki hut, getting bids and making multiple phone calls. I like to make sure that new residents feel welcome, and offer help when needed. My office drawer has a dozen bags with keys belonging to condos that I keep an eye on when my snowbird friends leave.
I am running for the Board because I feel that the welfare and the safety of the community, not the will of the Board or management company, are paramount. I'm sure I can be a positive addition to the Porta Bella Board of Directors. We need to re-establish respect for each other, and listen to each other even when we disagree ... communication is key.
